Soooo… my Hoya staged a breakout

Hey there Reader

Est: 2 minute read (and one planty surprise attack)

Im seriously thinking of renaming my second bedroom the Hoya Escape Room.

No joke—my Hoya publicalyx had been growing everywhere. Vines were wrapping around bed frame, and the curtain chains, stretching toward the ceiling like it had be somewhere (else!).

And honestly? I let it.

In fact I loved it! I wasn’t ignoring it exactly—I fed and watered it here and there. But it looked happy, and the growth kept coming (a lot!), so I figured: why mess with a good thing?

…Until I actually checked it the other day.

Mealybugs.

So? ... Choppity chop! Off came the bonus vines. Out came the neem. The curtain chain got the spa day it never asked for. And now?

She's happy again 🥰
Not just okay—actually happy again. Like she can breathe.

Lesson learned:
Sometimes, just because a plant is growing doesn’t mean it’s thriving. Unchecked growth can invite problems—pests, weakness, exhaustion. (Same goes for us, honestly.)

So here’s your reminder: Don’t be afraid to intervene. To check things. To cut back what’s creeping a little too far.

Your plant won’t hate you for it. In fact… she will probably thank you.

🪴 Planty reminder of the week:
If you find mealybugs, act fast. Isolate the plant, wipe down with rubbing alcohol, and spray with neem or insecticidal soap every few days. And don't just treat once and relax. Because they super sneaky and hide where you least expect! So treat every few days until you see no more. Persistence > panic.

Bringing you leaves, love, and laughter,
